A craft exchange project between Japan and Sweden by Shogo Hirata and Lisa Juntunen Roos. This project aims to find new ways of working with textile craft by combining two countries’ craft cultures into one. By filtering Swedish weaving and pattern traditions through a traditional Japanese weaving technique,”intertraditional fabric” (international + traditional) is created, a piece of fabric that doesn’t belong to neither country while appealing to the tradition in both countries.

This exhibition showcases an installation of the finished fabric and the processes of making fabric with Shimogawa Orimono, a traditional Kurume Kasuri weaving mill in Yame, Fukuoka. The exhibition takes place at two locations, “Orimono”at Asita_Room (5/25-6/6) focusing on our intertraditional fabric, “Tukurite” at MUJI Grand Front Osaka Open MUJI(6/5-6/17)  focusing on the long-term process of making our fabric and the craftspeople’s story behind.
